Giant Killers score big with blazing tribute "One For Georgie"

The very same Giant Killers of Brighton prove that amazing music doesn't have a shelf life. And with last month's rediscovered album, Songs For The Small Places, finally being released in February 2024 (three decades late), the 90s rockers are enjoying a nice ripple of positivity. In their new single, "One For Georgie," it's more than a song, but a party.

A riot of pumping brass, banging beats, and in-your-face drive, One For Georgie barrels out of the blocks and doesn't look back. It's a soulful, high-octane homage to the footballing giant George Best, whom the Brighton duo had the pleasure of knowing during the '90s. This is not your cookie-cutter homage; it is big, blooming brashness, a loving, live-wire tribute to a life that would not sit still, be quiet, or behave.

The song's new music video premiered here on Little Genius Recordings, featuring a combination of raw concert footage and old animosity, capturing the band's live dynamism and the nostalgic aesthetic of the period. It's a full-circle moment: a song written as a personal dispatch, now receiving a cinematic second life.

It's incredible how easily Giant Killers mix soul, swagger, and storytelling. The vocals are soaked with heart, the horns slice through like sunshine on a gray day, and this groove not only has swing; it's got malice. This is a celebration as a sonic delivery device, and it's obvious the band is not merely back; they're swinging.
