The Green Man Rising contest remains a vital platform for emerging UK solo artists and bands, presented by Green Man Festival and The Green Man Trust. It broke the previous record on the most entries at a staggering 13,000, proving something that many of us already knew: that the underground music scene in Britain is thriving.
The live final, which took place at Cardiff’s legendary Clwb Ifor Bach, saw A Lesser Version, lots of hands, Sarah Meth, Shale and, of course, Wing combined in one already-packed line-up. But when the smoke had cleared and the final beat had dropped, it was Wing! Who soared to the top?

Best known for crafting balmy, textured soundscapes that meld ambient textures, field recordings, and slumped hip-hop beats, Adam Swan’s Wing! It is not so much a producer alias as it is an entire musical universe. For the live final, Wing! It became a trio, which gave the routine an edge that seemed to work for all of the judges.
It was news confirmed by none other than BBC 6 Music’s Huw Stephens, long a cheerleader for emerging talent. This is a massive moment for America, Wing!, but for those of us watching from the wings, evidence that there’s still room for very special work to cut through the noise.
Fiona Stewart, Owner and Managing Director of Green Man, looked back on a remarkable journey: “Nurturing talent is at the core of Green Man, and it has been amazing to witness over 4,000 bands submitting to Green Man Rising. Over 200,000 contestants, and to be able to emerge as a finalist from that number itself is a testimony to your talent. But there’s only one winner and we can’t wait to see Wing! to open the Mountain stage, alongside acts such as Underworld and Wet Leg.”
As part of the prize, Wing! is set to take over the iconic Mountain Stage at this year’s Green Man Festival on August 14th-16th. Sharing a bill with heroes like Underworld and Wet Leg is no small achievement, but a landmark for your career.
As Wing! He gets ready to take his place on one of the UK’s most prestigious festival stages, marking a launch. Characterized by an immersive, forward-thinking sound and a reputation for performances that push boundaries, Wing! is not just rising but flying.
