Slinking up with the irresistible Lissie and pigeonhole-dodging Los Bitchos, Faulkner fires out one of the most refreshing summer drops we've heard in a very, very long time with "Hunting Season." It's fun, fearless, and full of personality from the opening beat to the final chorus. The muted, rhythm-heavy first verse is kicked off by Faulkner's characteristic soulful voice, grabbing you right from the kick off. Then Lissie comes in, charisma up 11 and sparks the track to life. The type of chorus that creeps into your head and takes up residence for days on end.
Coming off the electric high of his collaboration with the Bloom Twins, Faulkner shows that he's in a period of impeccable artistic reawakening. Though he never fell out of the public eye, his new spree of releases carries the sense of a reawakening. May 2025's 'Alright Alright Alright' had us with the swag Brit-rock energy, but now "Hunting Season" burns with cool. It's a track that doesn't reach too far, meaning it doesn't have to because it knows it's fun.
And we can't overlook Los Bitchos, their genre-mixing groove holds the whole thing together with a distinctive percussive snap that sets "Hunting Season" apart from the pack of summer releases. It's one of those collaborations that might seem unlikely on paper, but one that feels like magic in execution. It encapsulates the freewheeling vibe of late July, but refines it into three minutes of pure bliss. You can almost hear it reverberating through the festival fields, drinks in hand, and the sun setting.
