American pop-rock band LANY is out once again with the release of their sixth studio album, "Soft". A deep return for the duo comprising Paul Jason Klein, vocals/guitar, and Jake Clifford Goss, drums, "Soft" is packed with 10 tracks of resilience and ineffable pop-rock energy that span 34 minutes of storytelling. "Soft" comes two years after 2023's "A Beautiful Blur" and is the first full-length project from LANY since Paul Jason Klein narrowly survived a life-threatening car crash last summer.
The first two songs, "Know You Naked" and "Last Forever," are a case in point. It's intimate and also a celebration, openness wed to an incalculably infectious series of rhythms that make you want every track both on the dance floor and in your thoughts. "Last Forever," written just one month after Paul's accident, accounts for a profound personal sense of victory and elation. The earnest lyrics of the song and its uplifting melody echo the healing, renewal themes that run through much of the record.
Standout tracks such as the title cut "Soft" and "good parts" continue to showcase LANY's signature formula of infectious pop hooks coupled with honest, poetic songwriting. Spread throughout this collection of 10 tracks, the band delicately dances around reflective ballads and catchy, spirited anthems like they're comfortable and confident romantics unafraid to show their shaky underbelly. "Soft" is a testament to survival, love, and reinvention. LANY's sixth release serves as a reminder to longtime fans and newcomers alike that they remain an essential voice in the world of contemporary music.
