BLINGOUTKID’s “Coffee In The Morning” turns small comfort into something meaningful

“Coffee In The Morning,” by BLINGOUTKID, starts from a significantly more complex place than its reassuring title may suggest. The song, written amid a bewildering era of high school and an existential crisis,  emerges from ambiguity rather than romance.

That base makes the song feel heavy with emotion. Instead of dramatizing love as a rescue, “Coffee In The Morning” focuses on the calm consolation of having someone there when life seems shaky. The partnership at the center of the song isn’t so much about fixing things as it is about offering some feeling of continuity.

The title itself does a fantastic job of reinforcing that notion. Morning coffee is an everyday routine, something known and reliable. Given the setting of the song, that ordinary routine becomes an appropriate illustration of what dependable presence may mean in the face of difficult situations.

That is a particularly human view. Sometimes life doesn’t need a big fix to seem a little easier. And sometimes just knowing that there is something, or someone, that you can depend on is enough to carve out a little pocket of peace.
