Kristian Nord finds way home on soulful release “Pulang Jo”

Kristian Nord rounds out his Bali recordings with the soulful “Pulang Jo,” a collaboration with Indonesian vocalist Grace Shella. It’s about one of the most common aspects of being human, the need to feel at home, and the recognition that home can be so much more than a place.

“Pulang Jo” is not only a place but also an emotional destination. The idea goes out to the people, memories, and inner sense of identity that may make somewhere or someone feel like home. That adds depth to the song that transcends geography and makes its fundamental notion both very personal and universal.

“Pulang Jo” captures the experience of leaving familiar surroundings to discover what lies beyond them, across cultures and continents. There is a tension, an emotional tension, to that journey. Taking a step into the unknown can be a source of discovery, growth, and new experiences, but it can also bring a deeper knowledge of what is really important.

That's the emotional strength of the song. The journey outside gradually becomes a journey inward, hinting that travel across the world might finally take one back to oneself. That’s a serious notion, and one that gives the release an unusually pensive aspect.
