“reflection” is the 10th release from Lodic and is a gripping new chapter and, by description, his most mature track to date. The track avoids the easy route of familiar techno territory, taking a darker, more psychological turn that offers a space where emotion, identity, and fixation can co-exist.
“reflection” appears to be predicated on the tension of being attracted to something that is not so easily left behind. That idea gives the song a powerful emotional core, especially as it deals with the confusing feeling of being attracted to something when walking away might seem like the easier option. The notion is undeniably personal, but the song is accessible enough for listeners to connect it to their own experiences.
Lodic’s approach is more advanced, but still preserving the melodic hooks and emotional immediacy that have helped make his music accessible. That is a nice balance. The darker production doesn’t feel as if it’s trying to alienate the listener so much as it’s trying to create a deeper atmosphere in which the melody and emotion can exist.
One of the most remarkable aspects of “reflection” is that it can fill the middle ground between contradictory emotional areas. It resides in the space between melancholy and exhilaration, between darkness and song, between intimacy and openness. Those contrasts give the release a sense of momentum without resorting to one emotional direction.
