Scarlett Fagan finds strength in stillness on soulful new single “Arise”

Scarlett Fagan returns with “Arise,” a jazzy, soulful single that centers its musical identity on endurance and perseverance. Instead of falling back into excess, Fagan’s expressive vocal presence and the production's melodic beat allow the emotional message to grow naturally throughout the track.

Fagan’s pedigree as a soul and jazz singer-songwriter lends the record seasoned credibility. She was the frontwoman of The Hawkmen, a Bristol band who featured on two Craig Charles’ Funk & Soul Club compilations and whose 12-inch vinyl singles were released on European labels. That history lends “Arise” an interesting sense of continuity, but the song itself feels more focused on a more personal emotional realm.
