MARS 999. Now, with his latest single "V Zákrutách" or "Víme, co nemáme" which is "In the Curves" in English, he's slipped into constructing something hypnotic but still a slow-burning construct that merges dream pop's closeness with alt-rock's restlessness and raw lo-fi grit within the confines of a DIY sheen. The result is a training track that alternates between whispering and screaming, driving you headlong. And "V Zákrutách" is that adrenaline-fueled lurch in your chest if you ever find yourself taking that curve a little too fast, and you all love it.
It's the nature of "V Zákrutách" to break: "Do Not Brake in The Curves is more than set in the road; perk up, foot, and keep on going. It's more than a song; this is a philosophy for being so. If life turns out a little curvier than you were prepared for, you don't check out or spin out. MARS 999 doesn't cross genres; he transcends artist to listener, control to surrender.
Recorded between Slovakia and Prague with Rohin Brown, producer, and mastered by Sarah Register, "V Zákrutách" is a handmade yet incredibly cinematic work. Lo-fi textures buffer against emotive guitar lines, and MARS 999's tenders notice his orders or warnings stylishly, cutting it down to the wire in a tense balance between fragility and courage. With every pound of hand clap, MARS 999 takes us into the wild. The wind lets us breathe in, inhale the breath of having been caught in a radiant, sweet, abrupt moment, seen on the forest floor, and you taste life's flavor in his voice.
Watch the DIY video for reminder of these moments you might not remember, but you'll never be able to do them again: Neon-lit streets rained under summer evening's sweat; carnival rides spun like memory replayed into actions the reader who submits moments who conductored in life; it's unposed, it's caotic, it's beautiful and it's real. A new Vid for GEE will also take you this way. Through the GEE way or heading elsewhere for "V Zákrutách", MARS 999 offers an indie-world voice to listen to, from slow to fast fashion.
