Alessi Rose delivers a refreshingly new single, "First Original Thought"

Alessi Rose, London’s new indie-pop darling, gives listeners the best of both worlds with her latest track “First Original Thought,”. Co-written by Alessandra Rose Jones, Amy Allen, and Blake Slatkin, the track sounds both effortlessly modern and intimate.

“First Original Thought” is a brilliant takedown of a too-late apology. The concept, Alessi says, was born from a scathingly ironic wisecrack about an old flame suddenly experiencing an “autonomous original thought” and recognizing all he had given up long after the door was shut.

The airy swagger of the song hits immediately, slipping back and forth from sweet dismissal to sly mockery. Alessi’s singing acutely conveys that moment when someone’s groveling starts to seem not just long delayed but almost a little comical.

“First Original Thought” shines as a breakup song you can smirk your way out of, but it’s also terribly relatable for anyone who’s ever had someone come crawling back after the fact. The humor doesn’t undermine the emotion, but it sharpens it, enhancing the way the song stays with you long after it finishes.
