Canadian alt-rock heavyweights Arkells are back with a new single called "What Good?". It's an electrifying look at a world that's too full of noise, stress, and fake outrage. Anthony Carone, Max Kerman, Michael DeAngelis, Nick Dika, and Tim Oxford all wrote the song, and John Congleton produced it. It marks a big change for the band as they get ready for their new album in 2026.
As always with Arkells, the rollout felt both personal and rough. A small group of lucky fans got to hear the song for the first time in a Toronto garage rehearsal space just 48 hours before it came out. The close-quarters preview showed the band at their most raw, five musicians locked in, exploring the tension between the digital noise of everyday life and the grounding force of a live, human moment.
"What Good?" delves deeply into the existential chaos of contemporary life. It goes after the online comment vortex, the rage-bait that pretends to be conversation, and the grind that keeps grifters going while draining everyone else. The track avoids assigning blame, instead piercing through the haze with a question that resonates less as cynicism and more as a challenge to regain clarity.
The song has the band's signature sound of driving rhythms, punchy guitars, and anthemic energy. There is a restless current running through the arrangement that echoes the unease that drives its main idea. But even though it frustrates Arkells, the song still has the same spirit, the idea that hope and reflection can go hand in hand, and that asking hard questions is the first step towards understanding.
