In a music world where singles and short-lived trends are common, Kiyan Foroughi, a multicultural producer and storyteller, brings something much bigger. His first concept album, "Inner Light. OUTER SPACE," is like a movie journey, and its main song, "The Destination," is one of the most interesting ways to get into the project.
The song combines cosmic neo-soul, hip-hop, and jazz to take listeners into the album's larger story world. The main character is a woman on a deeply personal quest for identity as she travels through alien landscapes and faces mythic trials. The story becomes less about distant galaxies and more about the vast terrain within, thanks to the philosophical thoughts of Rumi and Carl Jung's psychological work on the shadow.
Collaboration is key to making "The Destination" work. Legendary conscious rapper Substantial gives the song weight and depth with his thoughtful presence, while Singaporean singer Rachelle Ruby adds an emotional layer that shines through. Her voice sounds like the thread that leads the listener through the song's deep themes and atmospheric sounds.
What makes Foroughi's approach new is that the music fits the idea. The production goes back and forth between warm, soulful sounds and futuristic sounds, making you feel like you're floating through space while still feeling human. Jazz-influenced instruments and a hip-hop beat hold together the song's wide range of sounds.
