Alice Merton is always known for bringing strength out of weakness. Her new single, "Ignorance is Bliss," is no different, released on September 25, 2025, as the first taste of her forthcoming third album, "Visions" (out January 16, 2026). The track is a declaration of self-love and a universal battle cry.
Written and recorded with Bastille's Dan Smith, Paul Whalley, and producer Jennifer Decilveo at the remote Flóki Studios in Iceland, this track evokes a chilly, clear atmosphere that reflects its origins. But there's a fire to the cool production, a voice that has grown weary of being told what they can't do.
Merton describes the song's genesis and the people who inspired it, being called a daydreamer who is too distracted ever to get a driver's license. That refrain of doubt, for her, became symbolic of all the voices that sought to put limitations on her. With "Ignorance is Bliss," she turns the narrative on its head, embracing the dreamer within and making clear that imagination isn't a weakness. "Ignorance is Bliss" is a hymn of liberation. It's also a reminder that sometimes the smartest thing of all is to tune out the noise and not limit what you believe, but believe it might just be in you.
