Bristol’s nu-metal hope seems to be emerging stronger in form with their new single, “Luciferian.” Taken from their forthcoming self-released EP, "Masquerading Self" due by December 4, 2025, the single further establishes the band’s budding repertoire for marrying unapologetic heaviness with keenly human storytelling.
The song explodes with buzzing riffage and a punishing beat courtesy of drummer Jacob Andrews, establishing an aggressive tone as soon as vocalist/guitarist Mike Evans takes over. His vocal performance is a mixed bag of rough intensity and melodic refinement, contributing nicely to the duality that’s present in both the lyrics and the song itself. “Luciferian” is about the insidious weight of toxic energy when you’re lashed to the wrong person. The lyrics are about that inner alarm bell, the gut feeling that won’t stop rattling around.
Bassist Joe Johnson plays an unrelenting low end beneath the chaos, and Jay Evans’ guitar lines sew atmosphere and grit into the heart of the track. The production, directed by Tom Cory, captures all shades of tension to make the song slam with physical and emotional impact. The music video, also directed by Johnson, adds a grim visual punch to “Luciferian”’s musical bite.
Debuted on BBC Radio 1’s Future Artists with Sian Eleri, this sweet little song already sounds like a proper calling card for PROFILER. Describing “Luciferian” as Dope’s sister song, the band effectively links the two, as they are lyrically about intuitive survival despite toxic connections.
As a first glimpse of Masquerading Self, this single signifies PROFILER in their sharpest state yet. “(There’s No) Promises In The Dark” dials the energy knob up to ten as a punk beat drives “Luciferian” into being on angry wings, with stark bass lines that accelerate instincts and disquiet.” Heavy, urgent, and unapologetically honest, “Luciferian” is the sound of a band taking no prisoners and urging listeners to follow them into the fire.
