The Last Dinner Party delivers with their new single, "Second Best," officially out. The British five-piece– Georgia Davies (bass), Lizzie Mayland (guitar), Abigail Morris (vocals), Aurora Nishevci (Keyboards), and Emily Roberts run riot on this, the third peek at their hotly anticipated second record, From The Pyre, out October 17.
Written by guitarist Emily Roberts and produced by Markus Dravs, "Second Best" is as rough as it is vulnerable. It's the sound of being devoured by someone who never gives you your due and still hanging on until betrayal becomes its heaviest. "Second Best" is the push-pull between being absolutely repulsed by someone and, at the same time, being obsessed with them, knowing deep down that they're going to stab you in the end.
Second Best" staggers between chaos and purification. Introduced by Lizzie Mayland's guitar lines, that landscape is serrated and aurora-soaked as Aurora's dancing keys loop around the record like embers. Meanwhile, Davies's bass is fat and resolute, anchoring the storm as Morris unleashes ghostly and unyielding vocals. It's the band at their most cinematic yet, piling despair and triumph into a single breath. "Second Best" establishes that they're now myth-busters, transforming heartbreak into a survival anthem. "Second Best" not only stings but scorches, and it stays long after the last note fades.Connect with The Last Dinner Party on Instagram
